Bukit Batok - Done Much And Will Do Much More
Message from Our Jurong GRC MPs:
The community in Bukit Batok division is a closely-knitted one. Not only do we have active grassroots leaders, our star-award grassroots organizations have been receiving commendation and admiration from many stakeholders. Our Community Club (CC), for example, offers a wide variety of activities and courses to meet the diverse interests of our residents. Our Westwind Symphonic Band and Bukit Batok Chinese Orchestra epitomize the spirit of community-based art – people who come together for a common reason – for the love of the art. Their passion for music is clearly pulpable from their music which won them much acclaim from the critics. And these are just examples of many more performance art groups in Bukit Batok.
The camaraderie extends beyond the CC. The community is involved in helping needy students with scholarships and bursaries. The schools in turn are participating actively in raising fund for the community. The Malay community started mentoring programme for their students. The Indian community regularly provides meals and food ration for the needy residents. Voluntary Welfare Organisations such as St. Luke, Concern and Care, PAP Community Foundation are frequent participants in community events. Led by committed and capable grassroots leaders, volunteerism in Bukit Batok has grown from strength to strength. Activities are inclusive and supported by residents of all races and religions.
Bukit Batok is well served with amenities - it has an MRT station, a shopping complex, well-maintained parks and facilities, a swimming complex etc. More importantly, it is a community that has a big heart and a strong sense of belonging.
