Bukit Batok East - We Care And We Share
We have various programmes in Bukit Batok East to demonstrate our strong commitment to help our residents. We strongly believe that no child should be deprived of education and we have various help schemes started at the local level to address this. With funds raised from the community, we are able to distribute vouchers to families which need the extra help to purchase new books and stationery to prepare their children for the new school year. “3Rs”, “KidsRead” and Progress Class (heavily subsidized tuition classes) are some of the programmes we have to help young children enjoy reading and their school work. We have a special centre, the Gen Y Youth Hub, catering to the teens that have dropped out of school. The teens are brought through non academic programmes such as learning to play the different musical instruments.
On the wellness aspect, we have in place a 250-strong membership of our Sunday brisk walk. We encourage the young and old to join this healthy programme, which has been going on every Sunday since September 2008.
On the facilities, we have implemented lift upgrading, covered linkways, drop off vehicle porches, fitness equipments, hard courts and barrier free ramps and foot paths.
Residents who need assistance can come to my Meet-the-Peoples’ sessions which are conducted every Monday, from 7.30pm at Block 241 Bukit Batok East Avenue 5.
