Deputy Leader of the House

Desmond has served as MP for Jurong GRC since 2011.

He was appointed Minister of State for National Development in 2013. He is also a member of the National Youth Council, and Chairman of the Youth Corps Singapore Advisory Committee. Desmond heads the Friend of Ubin Network, chairs the Rail Corridor Partnership, and is a member of the Jurong Lake District Steering Committee.

Before joining politics, Desmond  served as a justice’s law clerk of the Supreme Court, and later as Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Attorney-General’s Chambers. He also worked in the Ministry of Law and headed the legal department in the Ministry of Health. From 2009 to 2013, Desmond was appointed a lay member of the Ministry of Health’s National Transplant Ethics Panel. After entering politics, he worked as an  in-house corporate counsel.

Desmond graduated from the National University of Singapore with First Class Honours in Law in 2001. In 2005, he obtained a Masters in Law from the University of Oxford. He is married, and has 3 young children.
