Our vision for the community at Jurong Central is described as a great home and a caring community - one where residents feel a strong sense of belonging and pride. The residents have felt the pulse of transformation over the last few years as we provide real solutions to their problems.

Facilities at Jurong Central have been upgraded over the past few years. Block 505 market at Jurong West St 52 was upgraded in 2008, and completed before the Lunar New Year in 2009. Progressively the Lift Upgrading Programme (LUP) was implemented precinct by precinct and the residents can look forward for the remaining precincts to be completed soon.

To improve the pre-school facilities for children, we have been upgrading the PCF kindergarten and childcare centres. We have engaged NTUC First Campus to manage these centres using their curriculum and teaching methods. Our teachers stay relevant by attending training courses regularly to cater to the evolving needs of the children. 2 new childcare centres will be completed soon, one located at Block 553 and the other at Block 409/410. The upgrading works cost approximately $1.5 million.

Jurong Green CC will be upgraded in 2010 at the cost of $4.5 million and I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our grassroots leaders who have played a very active role in co-fund raising of $1.5 million.

Other than the hardware improvement, we also have heartware programmes that are planned for our residents. We have introduced the Wellness Programme for seniors - those above the age of 50. More than 1,500 residents are now members of the Wellness Club and over the next 5 years, we aim to reach out to 8,000 seniors through the Residents' Committees.

We are happy that the greater Jurong is undergoing exciting transformation with the redevelopment of Jurong Lake, addition of new MRT track at Jurong East Central and many more. Our residents and broader community can look forward to a more vibrant place with beautiful spots to relax, work and play.
